Over the 20th century there were many mass casualty events that had effects around the world. Mao's new economic plan was a massive push for heavy industry. This created extremely poor living conditions because of the extensive hours of manual labour for almost nothing in return. The new economic plan created a famine and these awful living conditions that lead to the death of 30 000 000 people. This number is incredibly high even if it was unintentional. Hitlers Holocaust was a direct attack on a race of people because he felt they did't belong. He created the most devastating war mankind has seen because of hate for other people. Stalin on the other hand created the great purges and show trials which also killed about 20 000 000 of his own people. Only for his own power and control in the USSR. The great leap forward is definitely the worst in terms of pure numbers but can't be compared to Hitler and Stalin because of the pure hatred and selfishness.
The Japanese were partially responsible for enabling communism in China. In 1925 when the former leader of the Republic of China dies, Chiang Kai Shek came into power with Mao Zedong in charge of propaganda in China and was able to promote his own views. Mao's ideal path for China was communism. After Japan attacked Manchuria, they established themselves in many towns and villages. Mao's communist party took action and helped to free many of these villages from the occupying Japanese. His party was seen as an anti Japanese force. Because Chiang was busy dealing with the invasion, Mao was able to send his men to do all the work. He was then able to spread communism throughout China with no one to stop him. If Chiang wasn't as focused on dealing with the invasion himself he could've possibly stopped the spread of communism.
