In what ways did Woodrow Wilson think that collective security might prevent another world war, and why was the League of Nations doomed from its creation?
Woodrow Wilson, the president of the U.S., was the creator of the 14 points. Within these 14 points collective security was suggested. Collective security is where all the countries come together for security. This would, in theory, prevent another world war from starting because if a country became out of line the rest of the world would be against it. The league of nations was created to promote collective security, but made a major mistake that would eventually lead to another world war. They rejected two of three powerhouses of their time: Russia, and Germany. Russia was rejected because they had just became a communist country. Germany was rejected because they had just "started" the first world war. The third powerhouse was of course, the United States. The U.S. wasn't rejected but just didn't join the group. Their congress rejected the League of Nations proposal because they thought that their government would start being influenced by the League of Nations and wanted isolation. Without these three countries the League of nations lost fire power and didn't have that much of an influence on the other countries from the beginning.
